Dammed Soul shows a man screaming in a wild expression of terror or agony. This is believed to be a self portrait of Bernini. In order to create this look of agony it is said he cut or burned his arm to produce this expression. He was only 21 years old when he created this. This piece was commissioned with Blessed Soul. Blessed Soul portrays a young women who is blissful and joyful. These two pieces show the contrast of human emotion. It shows the spectrum of being blessed or being damned, on piece looking toward hell and one towards God.
