Bernini
Gian Lorenzo Bernini was an Italian sculptor. He was seen as a leading sculptor of his age mainly because he was associated with developing the Baroque style. The sculpture above is representative of Apollo and Daphne who originate from Greek mythology. It is thought that this image was to replicate the story of Daphne in Ovid's Metamorphosis. I think it's amazing how he was able to capture her turning into a tree without it looking still. I like that one leg is rooted while the other is still human. The man chasing after her looks like he is frozen in time with is foot above the ground as if he is mid-run. This is made of marble and displayed in the Galleria Borghese in Rome.
