Bernini

This piece is called “The Rape of Proserpina” 1621 – 1622, by the famous Italian sculpture Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Bernini completed this sculpture at the age of twenty-three which portrays the God Pluto capturing Proserpina and taking her to the underworld. I chose this piece due to the power it portrays. This is especially seen in the indentation on Proserpina’s leg as Pluto grasps her tightly. It is also very impressive that this artist at such a young age is capable of producing such stunning work.
