George Segal

George Segal, and american artist, first began his career as a painter, but is most famously know for his cast lifesize figures. The materials George used are the same supplies that construct plaster orthopedic casts. However George, had a specific artistic pattern that made these figurines so unique. He would first wrap a model with bandages in sections, remove them once hardened, and then replace it with more plaster. These sculptures were usually kept bright white, but as the years went on, George would then begin painting them bright colors. George Segal became so well known for his work that in 1992 we was awarded the Lifetime Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture.  One of his greatest selling works, "Chance Meeting" sold in 2001 for $600,000 and was casted in bronze.
