David Smith was an abstract expressionist sculptor and painter. He is mostly known for his geometric shapes in his sculptures. His sculpture Cubi XII made in 1963, is made up of cubes in all different forms. It is made of stainless steel and is part of his Cubi series. The way the cubes are stacked look like they're defying gravity. Even though they are all welded together, it looks like they are just balancing on one another.
