Bernini-Medusa

Medusa is a marble sculpture of the eponymous character from the classical myth. The exact date of its creation is unknown, but it may have been made in the 1640s. There is no documented information on why Bernini created this sculpture. It was first documented in 1731 when it was presented to the Palazzo dei Conservatori in Rome. The sculpture shows heavy, exaggerated eyebrows and the rough treatment of the snakes with a polished face that shows the tormented face of Medusa. What I like about this sculpture is that it shows passion, emotion and the humanity of the moment, rather than the monstrous and horrific aspects of Medusa.
