Camille Claudel

Camille Claudel was a French sculptor who lived in the shadows of her teacher and lover, Auguste Rodin. During her career she gained little recognition for the originality of her work. By the time she was a teenager she was noticed by other artists of the time as being a gifted sculptor. By 1892 her relationship with Rodin began to crumble and she became isolated. She worked tirelessly on her art and often exhibit her art at recognized salons, although she would just as often go back to her studio and destroy every piece of work. She became so obsessed with Rodin's "injustice" to her she alienated herself from society. She became so overwhelmed she was involuntarily committed to and asylum where she remained until she died.
