Camille Claudel

Camille Claudel was born December 8, 1864 and died october 19, 1943. She is a well know french sculptor who was best known as the mistress and muse of Auguste Rodin. Paul Claudel who was Camille sister, wrote journals and memories which provided much of the scant information available on her sisters life.  Claudel was fascinated with stone and soil as a child, and met Rodin in the 1883, shortly after she then became hist student, collaborator, model and mistress. She is believed to have contributed to Rodin projects of that period particularly to The Gates of Hell.
