The Wave

The Wave was created by Camille Claudel from 1897-1903. It is a sculpture of three women frolicking. They seem happy as if they are dancing around, but the wave looms above them. The three women are said to represent the three fates. Claudel often used this representation as a metaphor for her own life. The women were cast in bronze and used onyx marble to create the wave. I chose this piece of art by Camille Claudel because I enjoy the contrast between the bronze and the marble. I also enjoyed reading about the interpretation of the piece and how the women represent the fates and that the wave is hovering above them just about to crash down.
