Bernini

Bernini was an Italian sculptor and architect who introduced the Baroque style of sculpture. His commitment to sculpture at such a young age was almost obsessive. He compared making art to falling in love which can be seen by his delicate handling of the stone.  His art brought a realism to sculpture with the representation of emotions shown in his sculptures and how the emotions are connected to the body. He had an awareness of the textures of skin and hair and a new way of shading  broke free from Michelangelo's tradition. I chose to look at this sculpture called "Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi," Fountain of the Four Rivers, created in 1651 and located in Rome. This fountain was a source of potable water for the locals before there was indoor plumbing and was also a monument to the pope and his family.
