David smith is considered to be one of the greatest American sculptors of the 20th century. He was and abstract expressionist sculptor and the first to work with welded metal. Smith only completed one year of college and began working in a factory where he learned the spot welding techniques used in his career. I like his cubi series the best because of how geometric and clean each sculpture is. I also really like how he uses a shiny finish to contrast with the landscape.
