David Smith
David Smith lived from 1906-1965. He was a sculptor and a painter. However he was most well known for his metal fabrications. He worked for one summer on an assembly line at an automobile factory, as well as a factory in upstate NY welding locomotives and M7 tanks. This could be were he learned to work with and fabricate metals. However, seeing welded sculptures from Picasso and Gonzales led to an increase in construction interests in art. He is most known for the 'cubi', which he fabricated out of metal and is truly a work of art with seamless edges and smooth welds.
